We most recently saw Jada Pinkett-Smith play the bad ass villain, Fish Mooney on FOX’s Batman prequel,Ā Gotham.
She may be taking her talents over to ABC for a new law series. According to Shadow & Act, ABC just green lit a pilot episode of the legal seriesĀ Murder Town.
Here’s the description:
Pinkett Smith will star as Wilmington, Delawareās first African American District Attorney, who finds herself challenged by old loyalties and loves, a shocking revelation about her murdered husband and a polarizing, racially-charged case that threatens to turn her life and her city upside down.
Jada and Will‘s production company, Overbrook Entertainment will serve as executive producers of the forthcoming show.
We love that so many women of color are not only getting leading roles on primetime TV, the roles are also smart and sophisticated. However, the premise ofĀ Murder Town seems to lack originality given that Sanaa Lathan was recently cast in an almost identical series entitled, Indictment, for FOX.
Hopefully both showsĀ can coexist without seeming overly redundant to viewers.
