Someone may need the reminder that you can’t fire someone who already quit. And by someone… we mean President Donald Trump.
Following his first day back in the White House, Trump announced on his Truth Social platform early Tuesday morning (Jan. 21) that he was planning on removing more than 1,000 appointees from their respective positions, all hired under the leadership of Former President Joe Biden. As reported by WSB-TV, Trump singled out former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who was a member of the President’s Export Council.
“Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration, who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again,” Trump wrote. Singling out Bottoms and three other high-profile appointees, Trump proudly declared, “YOU’RE FIRED!”
There’s just one problem… Bottoms already resigned from the position.
Taking to Instagram later Tuesday morning, Bottoms confirmed that she submitted her resignation on January 4 while also questioning Trump’s decision to put her name in his mouth at such a late hour.
“A day late and a dollar short….My resignation from the President’s Export Council was submitted January 4, effective yesterday. You can’t fire someone who has already resigned. Of all of the things happening in the world, not sure why I am on Donald Trump’s mind at 1:30 am following his Inauguration, but I count it as a badge of honor. I do hope that his attention to detail will be much more keen when it comes to world affairs. There are real issues that need attention across the globe. No matter how you voted, I think we can all agree that targeting me, along with a man who is feeding displaced people in Los Angeles and a decorated military General in the early morning hours via social media is not the best use of time for the President of the United States.”
World-Renowned Chef Also Responds To Being “Fired” By Trump
Chef José Andrés also confirmed that he resigned from his position on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition prior to being “fired” by Trump.
“I submitted my resignation last week…my 2 year term was already up,” Andrés wrote on social media with laughing emojis.
The World Central Kitchen founder, who was recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Former President Biden, continued his statement:
I was honored to serve as co-chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. My fellow council members – unpaid volunteers like me – were hardworking, talented people who inspired me every day. I’m proud of what we accomplished on behalf of the American people…like a historic partnership between the White House and every major sports league to increase access to sports and health programs for kids. I hope [President Trump] exercises his presidential authority so the Council can continue to advocate for fitness and good health for all Americans. These are bipartisan issues…nonpartisan issues. May God give you the wisdom, Mr. President, to put politics and name calling aside…and instead lift up the everyday people working to bring America together. Let’s build longer tables….
