Some beefs never end. For proof, look no further than 50 Cent‘s undying vitriol for the Murder Inc. collective – more specifically, rap nemesis Ja Rule and Irv Gotti, the label figurehead who passed away on Wednesday (Feb. 5).

According to sources, Gotti was recently placed on a ventilator in the ICU after suffering another stroke earlier this week. The shocking news has sent waves through the music community, as Gotti’s contributions to the genre were immense. Throughout his career, Gotti became one of the most prominent figures in the early 2000s hip-hop and R&B scenes. Gotti’s unmatched talent as a producer and executive made him a key player in shaping the sound of that era. He is best known for hits such as ‘Always On Time,’ ‘Mesmerize,’ and ‘Livin’ It Up.’
The feud between 50 and Ja has now spanned three decades and includes diss records, physical altercations, online trolling and even an alleged stabbing. So last night’s news that Gotti had passed was bound to spark a reply from Fif eventually.. but very few thought he’d reply so quickly – and coldly.
But for those who’ve been following the G-Unit leader’s career and previous online antics, his reaction hardly comes as a surprise.
“I’m smoking on dat Gotti pack,” 50 wrote on his Instagram page below a picture of him seated next to a tombstone while puffing on hookah. “Nah God bless him. LOL.”
Rap and street wars aside, there is no denying the musical contributions that Irv imparted on Hip-Hop since the mid-90s. From catapulting the careers of artists like Mic Geronimo, DMX and Ja Rule.. to his work with Jay-Z, Nas and further fusing the sounds of R&B and Rap with acts like Ashanti, to his corporate moves within the Def Jam and BET offices, we send love and healing energy to his family and close circle.
Rest in Peace, Irv Gotti.
