Mariah Carey and OutKast have earned respective nominations to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2025 Class. On Feb.12, the esteemed museum announced that the 55-year-old singer and the Atlanta-based rap duo were among the 14 celebs selected to earn a spot in the Rock Hall this year.

Carey, a standout nominee, is widely regarded as one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Known for her impressive five-octave vocal range and ability to hit high notes with ease, the star rose to fame in the early 1990s with the release of her self-titled debut album, which produced hits like “Vision of Love” and “Someday.”

Carey achieved immense commercial success throughout the 1990s and 2000s with a string of chart-topping singles and albums, including fan favorites like “Hero,” “We Belong Together,” “Fantasy,” and “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which has since become a holiday classic. The powerhouse singer is a five-time Grammy winner and boasts 19 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

This is OutKast’s first Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame nomination.

This is OutKast’s first time being nominated, according to CBS News, although it’s not the first year of eligibility for the legendary hip-hop stars, Billboard noted. But the nomination is well deserved. Composed of rappers André 3000 and Big Boi, the hip-hop icons created an innovative sound in the mid-‘90s, blending hip-hop with elements of funk, soul, and electronic music.

Their breakthrough album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik (1994), introduced their distinct Southern style, while later albums like ATLiens (1996) and Aquemini (1998) solidified their reputation as pioneers in the genre. In 2003, their double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was a massive success, with hits like “Hey Ya!” and “The Way You Move,” which helped them win multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Best Rap Album.

Carey and OutKast are part of a powerhouse group of nominees this year, which also includes English rock legends Bad Company, Southern blues-rockers The Black Crowes, early rock n’ roll icon Chubby Checker, blues singer Joe Cocker, punk rock legend Billy Idol, post-punk and dance-rock pioneers Joy Division/New Order, pop icon Cyndi Lauper, Mexican rockers Maná, Britpop heroes Oasis, jam band staples Phish, grunge giants Soundgarden, and garage rock innovators The White Stripes.

The 2025 Inductees will be announced in late April, along with the honorees entering under three special categories: Musical Influence, Musical Excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award, CBS News noted.
