It wasn’t the punches that had people talking—it was Tank’s decision to take a knee in the ninth round, which he explained was due to hair product running into his eyes. If thats the best excuse he got, we will take it!
Fans, analysts, and even his opponent, Lamont Roach Jr., were left bewildered after , Tank voluntarily dropped to the canvas. “The hair product running into my eyes caused me to take a knee,” he said. Now, if you’re trying to process this, you’re not alone. Who knew that a bit of gel could be the reason a fighter steps out of the ring like he’s done a quick runway turn? But Tank wasn’t the only one caught off guard. His hair stylist, who reportedly did Tank’s hair days before the fight, clapped back online, posting pictures of the products used and reminding everyone that she wasn’t to blame for his “knee moment.” “I told him to be careful,” she said. At least someone was thinking ahead about those edges!
Roach wasn’t having it, though. “If that was counted as a knockdown, I would win the majority decision,” he said after the fight ended in a majority draw, with one judge scoring it 115-113 in Davis’ favor, and the other two scoring 114-114. But let’s be real: was the knee from hair gel, or was Tank trying to avoid taking a real hit?
Even Terence Crawford, the multi-division champion, chimed in, calling the situation a “robbery” in a post, stating, “Never seen someone take a knee and they don’t count it as a knockdown.” And while Tank’s hair product might have been the real MVP of the fight, fans are still left wondering if he was more focused on a hair touch-up than a knockout.
