Smokey Robinson Accused of Sexual Assault in $50M Lawsuit

Smokey Robinson, the 85-year-old Motown legend, has been accused of sexual assault by four former housekeepers in a $50 million lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on May 6, 2025. The plaintiffs allege that Robinson sexually assaulted and raped them on multiple occasions between 2007 and 2024, while they were employed at his residence. The lawsuit also names Robinson’s wife, Frances, claiming she failed to prevent the abuse despite being aware of it.
The allegations include sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, gender violence, and creating a hostile work environment. The plaintiffs, identified as Jane Does, are seeking a jury trial and damages of no less than $50 million.
One of the women, Jane Doe 1, claimed Robinson routinely assaulted her when she worked alone on weekends, detailing disturbing incidents in the lawsuit. She feared reporting the abuse due to concerns over her livelihood, immigration status, and Robinson’s celebrity influence.
The lawsuit also alleges that Frances Gladney previously settled similar claims involving other victims. Robinson, a revered figure in the music industry with over 4,000 songs to his name and collaborations with icons like Marvin Gaye and the Temptations, has not responded publicly to the allegations.
As this legal battle unfolds, it threatens to overshadow Robinson’s illustrious career and tarnish the legacy of one of Motown’s most influential figures.
