Rocky Can’t Stop R9: Rihanna Says Pregnancy Won’t Delay New Album

For nearly a decade, Rihanna fans have been on the edge of their seats, clutching their headphones, begging the music gods for one thing: R9. After her 2016 masterpiece Anti, which was praised for its fearless experimentation and emotional depth, Rihanna took a sharp left turn—not into irrelevance, but into empire-building. Beauty, fashion, motherhood… and now, baby number three? Cue the fan panic. Again.
The 2025 Met Gala was supposed to be a high-fashion moment (and it was—Rih looked flawless), but what really sent the internet into a tailspin was the pop star revealing her third pregnancy with A$AP Rocky. Immediately, the Navy spiraled into “not again!” mode. Could R9 really survive another baby bump?
But this time, RiRi is shutting that theory down. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, she laughed off the suggestion that baby number three would push back the long-awaited album. “No,” she said coolly. “Maybe a couple of videos.” That’s it. A mere scheduling hiccup—not a full-blown derailment. The crowd (aka her 100 million Instagram followers) went wild.
And she’s earned the right to take her time. Anti wasn’t just a success—it was a career-defining, genre-smashing body of work that went triple platinum and gave us classics like “Needed Me” and “Love on the Brain.” Before that, Rihanna had already stacked a discography most artists could only dream of: Good Girl Gone Bad, Loud, Talk That Talk, Unapologetic—all chart-toppers. She evolved from island pop princess to full-fledged music icon.
Meanwhile, as fans waited (and waited…and waited), Rihanna wasn’t resting. She was building. In 2017, she launched Fenty Beauty, disrupting the cosmetics industry with 40+ foundation shades and proving inclusivity could be profitable. Then came Savage X Fenty, her lingerie line that redefined sexy and put Victoria’s Secret on notice. Oh, and she’s now a billionaire, by the way—thanks not just to music, but to mogul moves.
And through it all, she and A$AP Rocky have become one of pop culture’s favorite love stories. The stylish duo share two young sons—RZA and Riot Rose—and now, baby number three is on the way. Rocky, always the doting partner and proud father, has spoken lovingly about their family life. But fans are (half) joking that he’s been too supportive, joking online that he’s “keeping Rihanna pregnant so she won’t drop the album.”
But this time? Not gonna work, Rock.
Rihanna’s made it clear: she’s not just singing lullabies. “I can sing!” she told reporters with that signature sass. She’s feeling shockingly good, creatively energized, and in full control. Back in February, she told Harper’s BAZAAR she finally cracked the sound she’s been searching for. “It’s not going to be commercial or radio-digestible. It’s going to be where my artistry deserves to be right now,” she said. “I feel like I’ve finally cracked it, girl!”
She also confirmed there’s no specific genre, no industry pressure, and no compromise. Just pure, evolved Rihanna. “It has to count. It has to matter. I have to show them the worth in the wait,” she said. “After waiting eight years, you might as well just wait some more,” she joked—but that didn’t sound like a delay. It sounded like a flex.
So while baby number three is on the way and the Fenty empire is thriving, Rihanna is making one thing crystal clear: R9 is still coming, and it won’t be stopped—not by babies, businesses, or even Rocky’s secret (but adorable) attempts to stall it.
