Motown legend Smokey Robinson has issued a brief response to a $50 million lawsuit filed by four former employees accusing him of sexual assault, false imprisonment, and labor violations. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Robinson stated, “I am appalled,” and declined to comment further.

The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that between 2006 and 2024, Robinson sexually assaulted the women at his properties in Chatsworth, Bell Canyon, and Las Vegas. The plaintiffs, identified as Jane Does 1 through 4, claim they were subjected to various forms of sexual misconduct, including rape, and that Robinson used his celebrity status to intimidate them into silence. Additionally, the lawsuit alleges labor violations such as unpaid overtime and failure to provide meal breaks .

Robinson’s attorney, Christopher Frost, has denied the allegations, labeling them as baseless and part of a scheme to extract money from the 85-year-old artist. Frost criticized the plaintiffs’ legal team for attempting to sway public opinion through sensationalism and described the accusations as inconsistent and unbelievable. He indicated that Robinson would personally address the allegations and that a motion to dismiss the case would be filed .

As of now, no criminal charges have been filed, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has stated that the women’s claims are not under review because law enforcement has not presented a case .
